Singer, violinist, rabequeira, ethnomusicologist, and feminist artivist from Brazil, Laila has lived in Salvador da Bahia for 15 years, where she has deep ties to the cultural and musical diversity of its African traditions. She conducts research on the experimental pedagogies and creative practices within "contemporary music," as a professor in the University of Bahia's(UFBA) School of Music, of which she is an alum. Laila also completed her Post-Doc studies at UFBA in Music and Gender, Feminism, and Women's Studies. She recorded her first CD in 2013, titled, "Água Viva: um disco líquido."

Her CD was used as the soundtrack for live performances, dance, and theatre shows. One of the tracks received Bahia's prestigious Prêmio Caymmi for best instrumental music. Since then, Laila has worked as a composer of original music for fashion activism with Design Carol Barreto in Brazil and abroad
