Josette Roberts is a screenwriter from Panama, raised in Prince Georges County, Maryland. She now calls Flatbush Brooklyn home.
Graduate of New York University, Tisch School of The Arts, with a Masters in Fine Art from the Rita & Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing.
This year Josette Roberts was chosen by Dean of Students, Bob Cameron, to be the class of 2021, NYU Tisch Student Salute Speaker. Where she wrote and directed an original speech and accompanying video presentation that aired live at New York University Tisch School of The Arts 2021 Commencement Ceremony.
As a dramatist and screenwriter, she enjoys developing narratives across all genres. Her most recent works explore the horror and dark-comedy genres specifically.
As a gorgeous Black woman, she tends to turn heads. So naturally, she uses her ability to command a room’s attention with ease for pure-evil as an occasional stand-up comedian and joke writer. Committed to watching the world burn, one rant about the derelict state of Megabus bathrooms and the plight of riding hours wearing accidental pee-pants, at a time. (P.S. always wear black pants when riding the Megabus.)
New York has been her home for the last eight years. First arriving in the city in 2012 to study at The School of Visual Arts, where she received her BFA in Animation. She’s influenced by lambs (yes the animal), strong feminine bonds, imagery of real human connections, Paid In Full & The Shining.
Her curatorial work has been featured in VICE, HAFNY & BUST. (Art Exhibition: The Future Is Black Femme, curated by Jessica Pettway, Miranda Barnes & Josette Roberts)
Her storytelling has resulted in acknowledgment from the Nickelodeon Shorts Program & StayMacro Episodic Lab.
